In reply to Mosh. There could be a check valve that has gone bad that is supposed to keep fuel from entering the charcoal canister, but is no longer able to do its job. I am not sure; I'm not familiar with the evap system on that vehicle. I would get it checked out by a mechanic because leaking fuel can be a serious safety hazard.

Good day, I have a 2001 lexus RX300…at my last visit to the gas pump, I noticed that after the first few seconds of pumping fuel into the fuel tank, there was fuel leaking from the charcoal canister, but stopped just a few seconds after..what could be the problem? Does the cannister need to be replaced? Or could the problem be the valve that connects the fuel tank to the canister?

In reply to John Tabone. Sounds like you might have a clog in the EVAP system. Do you currently have any EVAP codes stored in the OBD2 history?

I have recently had problems filling up my gas at Costco. I have a 2014 Audi A4 with just under 11,000 KM. I can’t pump more than a liter, if that, at a time before the gas pump cuts off. As of today, I have tried 3 different pumps at the same Costco location but I continue to get the same problem. I do not have any lights on my dash (check engine, etc). I only hear a feint hissing sound when I open my gas tank up. I tried today waiting about a minute before filling but I continue to have the same problem. This issue started on my last 2 fill ups, 2 weeks or so.

2012 Mazda 3. Dealer told me that I needed a new gas tank (rotting from the inside out) as well as a charcoal filter. I live in Hawaii: $3300 estimate and 100k miles. I’m a teacher and this is not in my budget. Original owner and all maintenance has been addressed throughout the years. No other issues. So frustrated.

In reply to Denise. What led the service writer to believe you need a new engine? Service writers usually aren't the ones with their hands in the engine bay.

Also, the service writer told me I probably need a new engine. My car has 122,000 miles. I never had an issue before that part was placed. No check engine lights come on and I don’t smell fuel.

2016 Kia Sorento. I had a SC234 aux canister placed because it was a recall. Ever since my car is pinging/ ticking when I try to accelerate. Could the new canister be the issue???

Would the evap issues cause the vehicle to not start after running for a while? 2008 Suburban will not start after running (feels almost as if engine somehow has to re-set). Runs fine when on. Does have issues with filling up tank in that you have to let in fuel very slowly. Also if I’m running vehicle and turn off, and then turn back on (immediately), it will start, however if i wait to turn it on, it only cranks.
